Faculty Councils

Each of the nine faculties has a faculty council (Fachschaftsrat). The Fachschaftsrat is the student body at the faculty level that represents the Fachschaft, i.e. all students in a faculty. Just as the student council is the decisive body for the entire university. Depending on the faculty, between four and seven representatives are elected. The faculty council consists of elected members and is often extended by volunteers (co-opted members), who usually make the work of the faculty council possible. The activities of the Fa(s)Ras are often very extensive and vary from faculty to faculty. Some examples:

  • Advising students and pupils
  • Keeping old exams as samples and learning aids
  • Organization of the introductory week/day
  • Representation of students towards the faculty/lecturers
  • Organization of study courses e.g. mathematics
  • Organization of parties e.g. summer, freshman and Christmas parties
  • Contact with student councils
